Charrettes
are an important and integral part of the architectural and design process. Offering up the chance for rapid exploration and iteration of a design problem that has yet to be adequately addressed or which needs to be re-explored to accommodate for new conditions. Charlotte, North Carolina is a metropolitan hub of the south which is enclosed by a highway that surrounds the city. This ring road isolates the city center from the outlying neighborhoods and is the result of outdated urban theory and design beliefs around transportation. This charrette explores possible ways to bridge the gap and allow for outer areas to once again reconnect with the city center of Charlotte.
