Tea House
Critical to the architectural education and ability to express design intent is the Charrette, rapid exploration of a design concept focusing on the expression of thematic principles to provoke a deeper understanding of the site, project, and design problem presented. Tea House is just that, a charrette. The particular brief was to create a traditional Japanese tea house in a semi-dense urban environment, the design intent explored was how to insulate an inhabitant from their surroundings and reorient them to the park, nature, and the calm typically associated with this type of ceremony. While never built Tea House remains one of my favorite rapid design explorations undertaken during my undergraduate program.
